About the role


Fresh off the back of a successful relaunch and exciting new redesign, New Idea magazine is on the lookout for its next Editor.

Leading an expert team of magazine creators, we're looking for someone with a passion for women's entertainment and lifestyle, who will continue to drive one of Australia's most iconic magazine titles into the future.


You'll be joining a hybrid workplace with the opportunity to balance a fun and collaborative office environment with remote working.

Reporting to the Celebrity Editorial Director, you'll not only live and breathe celebrity gossip and royal news, but you'll be obsessed with all things Aussie television, lifestyle and health and wellness.


The Editor will work with relevant internal stakeholders to drive the strategic direction of this brand and seek out commercial opportunities, all the while staying true to the light-hearted, fun spirit of New Idea, and giving our readers the perfect balance of information and escapism that they crave each week.

This is a diverse and varied role for someone who can work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

You will be highly motivated to succeed, a critical thinker and a true leader, who will inspire and mentor an experienced team to even greater success.

Duties

  • Drive the vision and strategic direction of the magazine, using current trends, reader insights and sales results to ensure content always speaks to the unique audience.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing cover strategy that promotes variety, ensures regular engagement from readers and ultimately drives circulation and brand awareness.
  • Build and maintain a balanced and effective team to create the best possible product, and lead that team to achieve optimum results both collaboratively and individually.
  • Be responsible for a clear and effective workflow that ensures best practice publication of the product each week.
  • Collaborate with and provide support to internal stakeholders, including marketing, advertising and digital teams, as well as fellow editors, with the view of driving the commercial success of the brand.

Skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience on a celebrity magazine, website or related industry, with at least 2 years' experience in a senior leadership role
  • Strong leadership skills with a desire to help others around you grow
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deal with a fast paced, changing environment and tight deadlines
  • Professional, mature and decisive in approach
