The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital Editor to join SBS News on a casual basis.

We care about reaching all Australians - with a strong mandate for news stories that support, celebrate and appreciate the diversity of Australia's multicultural society.

This role will involve shift work. Below are the requirements of the role.

  • Curating the SBS News home page and other site sections
  • Covering breaking news, sending app alerts and operating live blogs
  • Using data and analytics tools to help inform editorial choices
  • Commissioning stories and guiding journalists to cover the most crucial stories of the day in the absence of the News Editor
  • Commissioning visually rich assets to complement stories, and bringing forward ideas for innovative coverage
  • Subedit copy, videos and social posts as and when necessary

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A confident and creative Editor with a strong eye for detail and the angles that matter to our audience.
  • Committed to maintaining our editorial integrity and maximising our publishing reach.

And someone who has:

  • An understanding of media law, flawless subbing, strong headline writing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Digital Editor for news titles.
  • A keen interest in what's happening in the world to develop storytelling in new and innovative ways to reach and engage wider audiences.
  • A passion for providing news for all Australians
  • A hunger to understand and share new developments and trends in journalism and digital media.
  • Good energy to collaborate across the newsroom to create unique and distinctive content that meets deadlines.


News happens around the clock and you must be willing and able to undertake hours that may involve early mornings, evenings and weekends.
