As the Biospecimen Operations Assistant, you will oversee and help to coordinate day to day activities within biospecimen services and track the financial aspects of biobanking operations.


In this role you will:

  • Be involved in sample management, reporting and tracking using the OpenSpecimen Database.
  • Generate project quotes, monitor grant expenditure, and coordinate invoices and purchase orders for biobanking services.
  • Support the laboratory and Biobanking and Clinical Research Manager with administrative tasks and ordering supplies.
  • Biobanking and biospecimen science are essential for translational medical research. NSW Regional Biospecimen and Research Services recognises the unique needs and opportunities of the regional research community and is committed to improving patient outcomes across a wide range of disease areas. Partnering with patients, health services and researchers across the state and nationwide, we aim to ensure a sustainable provision of research support that sees the region recognised for research excellence and remaining competitive for future funding schemes._
  • This 1year fixed term position is 0.6 FTE (possibility for extension) and will be located at Hunter Medical Research Institute (Awabakal and Worimi land)._

The remuneration for this position is from $71, % superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability and capacity to deliver outstanding professional support to senior managers and colleagues in a University or similar complex environment. Experience in and understanding of a biobanking or biospecimen processing facility highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable organisational, administrative, and secretarial skills and outstanding attention to detail in a busy, complex, and rapidly changing professional environment. Experience with UoN finance system and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) highly desirable
  • Welldeveloped problem solving and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work on tasks individually and collaboratively in a team environment demonstrating clear communication and mutual respect.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain complete confidentiality in the workplace and exercise initiative, judgement, and discretion.
  • High level written and oral communication skills including a demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders.
