Role Overview: Principal Consultant/Technical Director of Train Control & Signalling

Reporting to the Operations Manager (QLD), the Principal Consultant/Technical Director of Train Control & Signalling will focus on providing engineering advisory and technical services to support the creation & growth of advanced train control capabilities within SYSTRA. The opportunity will require you to apply your engineering expertise across a variety of rail infrastructure projects to ensure engineering excellence in an innovative and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide technical advice during different stages of the project lifecycle from feasibility to design and from construction to system integration & commissioning.
  2. Produce and review technical deliverables such as technical option reports, engineering principles, detail designs, and test procedures, etc.
  3. Apply system engineering techniques to support the production of technical deliverables (e.g. requirement traceability, system modeling, configuration management, etc.)
  4. Work with a wide range of System Assurance teams (including Safety & Human Factors, etc.) to support the demonstration that the systems deployed are fit for purpose.
  5. Support business readiness teams to analyze and understand the impact of technical decisions on the process and people aspects of the system.
  6. Work with clients to understand essential objectives and desired outcomes for each project.
Requirements and Experience
  1. Bachelor or higher-level qualifications in a relevant/related Engineering discipline or Systems Engineering is essential.
  2. Be working towards a chartered or equivalent professional status from a relevant Institution (e.g. Engineers Australia, RPEQ).
  3. 10-15 years' experience in a Rail Signalling or Control Systems / Traffic Management Systems, or modern Train Control technologies (e.g. ETCS, CBTC).
  4. Demonstrated experience in feasibility, system or preliminary design phases, or system testing on a project of technical relevance.
  5. Experience in applying systems engineering techniques.
  6. Experience of having worked in a project subject to Cenelec-based safety demonstration.
  7. A thorough knowledge of industry standards for Train Control Systems (ETCS, CBTC, etc).
  8. The ability to work to timeframes with a high degree of organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a self-motivated and proactive approach.
