Energy Job Ref: 2755 Technical Director – Hydraulics We are seeking a Technical Director - Hydraulics to help deliver our major hydropower projects in the Australia and New Zealand region.

With a significant workload from ongoing pumped hydropower energy storage projects, and a strong and growing pipeline of future work Mott Mac Donald is the leading consultant for the provision of high-quality technical services in this sector.

The hydraulics modelling, energy modelling and hydrology design associated with pumped storage projects is a critical consideration that drives their success, and Mott Mac Donald is looking for a highly experienced professional in this field to guide and mentor teams in this discipline.

You will play a key part of the overall development of the projects at an early stage as well as providing technical direction through the subsequent development stages.


Position responsibilities will include:
Overseeing and supporting engineering efforts for planning, design, and construction phase services on pumped storage hydropower projects.
Managing junior staff to prepare designs, including being able to conduct and review detailed calculations.
Directing the use of hydraulic modelling software for transient analysis and CFD modelling.
Preparing technical memoranda, reports, drawings and specifications.
Supporting field investigations and information collection including participating in or managing field testing to validate the design.
Preparing engineering and hydraulic calculations.
Analysing data, reviewing technical information, and conducting technical evaluations.
Opportunity to work on broader dam & water sector projects.

About you We invite applications from suitably qualified engineers (MSc or BSc in Civil or Hydraulic Engineering or other relevant discipline) with substantial experience as a technical expert, able to mentor junior engineers.

You will have extensive experience in the planning, design, and construction of hydropower projects and specifically the hydraulics aspects, utilizing HI standards for systems with a relative degree of complexity.

In addition, you will need: To be a self-starter with the ability to support and manage people and projects Strong technical capabilities related to hydraulics and hydrology Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present effective technical reports To use and directs others in the use of industry-standard computer software Application and selection process If this sounds like the right role for you please apply online as soon as possible.
