• Federal (Government & Defence)An exciting opportunity exists to undertake the role of senior technical officer tropical materiel degradation and performance situated at Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Innisfail in Far North Queensland.

The site provides access to and management of a suite of extreme environmental exposure sites for testing and exposure of products and materials.

The main laboratory, DSTG Innisfail, occupies 36 hectares which includes a secure tropical cleared compound and an adjacent jungle exposure site.

The other main sites utilised are the Cowley Beach Training Area where DSTG has a securely fenced compound for marine exposed beachfront testing and a marine immersion raft at Trinity Inlet in close proximity to HMAS Cairns.

DSTG Innisfail staff undertake the exposure trials and conduct preliminary observations and evaluation for staff in the respective DSTG laboratories around Australia.

The role encompasses site manager duties including:
Management of DSTG Innisfail staff and contractors.
Responsible for site wide WHS including laboratories, workshop, vehicles, boat and exposure sites, cyclone preparedness.

Ensure compliance with security processes including personnel, materiel, infrastructure and ICT.Regular liaison with various stakeholders including external DSTG staff and contractors running various trials.

Liaison with Defence staff in HMAS Cairns, E&IG, and others involved in site maintenance including fire brigade, emergency services, telecommunications.

The site manager is required to work primarily on-site at DST Innisfail. Some travel to other sites will be required.

Provide expert technical advice towards the planning, conduct and analysis of various S&T trials being undertaken in North QLD.Work with DSTG, ADF, Industry and other Defence stakeholders to drive new opportunities for partnering and utilisation for experimentation, assessment and evaluation in North QLD.About our TeamA small team of Defence professionals and contractors operate from DSTG Innisfail, approximately 1hr south of Cairns in North QLD.

The team undertakes planning, set-up, monitoring and sustainment of various exposure trials for the ADF. The teams' work provides an important capability to Defence in regard to materiel performance under extreme tropical conditions.
Our Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate has extensive experience in planning and conducting field trials and sustaining equipment and infrastructure.

They are effective communicators and comfortable working in and managing a small team which is remote to the broader workforce.

They are self-motivated, resourceful and capable of working with a wide range of stakeholders to initiate, foster and maintain partnerships.
