As the Senior Manager Marine Operations, you will be accountable for the daily marine operational activities of the Port to ensure safe and efficient shipping, cargo operations within the Port of Darwin including pilotage, pilot boat operations and vessel scheduling.

This role provides leadership, support, mentoring and coaching to cross functional teams in Pilotage and Water Side Operations, including oversight of the training and licensing progression for Marine Pilots in coordination with the Manager, Marine Pilots.

Position objectives include, but are not limited to;

  • Provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operations of the Marine Operations group to provide maritime services in a efficient and safe manner.
  • Foster relationships with customers and port users, to ensure the Port is meeting is regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Participate in Darwin Ports Integrated Incident Management Team, responding to a critical incident.
  • Represent Darwin Port in committees including the Marine Industry Council NT and Darwin Harbour Advisory council.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role you will hold a Diploma in Business Management preferably relevant to marine industry as a minimum. A Master Class 1 CoC or Bachelor of Applied Science (Nautical Science) is desirable.

Your ability to successfully coordinate operations, monitor and promote compliance, risk management and safety will contribute to your success in the role. You will be the type of person who has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships to achieve positive outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will have;

  • Minimum 5 years in managing experience in managing Port and/or Marine operations.
  • Knowledge of the Ports Management Act, NT Navigation Act and NT Port Regulations
  • Proficiency in English and nautical terminology to communicate effectively with maritime officers from diverse cultures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, high level report writing skills

All applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain a Maritime Security Identity Card (MSIC) and will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment and will be subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Company policy.

  • 5 weeks annual leave per annum (accrued pro rata)
  • Permanent full-time position
