Role Overview:

  • The Mental Health Act 2016 establishes the positions of Independent Patient Rights Advisors. A key function of these roles is to advise patients and their nominated support persons, family, carers and other support persons of their rights and responsibilities under the Act. The position plays a vital role in liaising between clinical teams, patients and support persons.
  • The Service Leader Independent Patient Rights will operate across the Metro South and Metro North Hospital and Health Services and is responsible for leading a team of Independent Patient Rights Advisors in the delivery of this service.
  • Manage the daytoday operations of the program including compliance with funding requirements, reporting, budget and staffing.
  • The Service Leader will also manage a small IPRA case load

Requirements:

  • Tertiary level education in a human servicerelated discipline i.e., Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or a completed relevant Diploma
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience in a mental health service either public, private or NGO.
  • Previous experience consulting with a broad range of mental health stakeholders
  • High level oral and written communication skills and ability to support people from vulnerable population groups
  • Proven negotiation and conflict resolutions skills
  • Participate as a team player and establish strong working relationships to deliver positive results demonstrate cooperation and trust with other team members
  • Proven experience working in an environment of change, be receptive to new ideas and respond to workplace changes with flexibility and optimism
  • Ability to identify problems or potential obstacles and analyse the situation to present recommendations for solutions
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and direction, take initiative to meet and exceed job requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in providing Operational Supervision to staff
  • Experience completing both Qualitative and Quantitative reports

  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
