About the Role:

As the General Manager - NSW/ACT, reporting to the National General Manager Club Support, you will play a pivotal role in developing working relationships with Clubs and Classes, enabling the successful introduction and delivery of Australian Sailing programs and initiatives. You will be instrumental in driving sustainable growth in participation and membership within your assigned group of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide strong, effective leadership and direction to Australian Sailing stakeholders and the sport of sailing throughout NSW and ACT.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Australian Sailing in NSW & ACT, including human and financial resources.
  • Develop and implement the strategic plan with the National General Manager Club Support, staff, committees, and membership.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and ensure financial sustainability within NSW & ACT.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and enhance relationships with key stakeholders, including clubs, class associations, regional advisory committees, and state government.
  • Support the State Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) by communicating national matters, reporting on state issues, and providing feedback to management.
  • Oversee the development of regional priorities and strategies for input to the national plan.
  • Provide quarterly reports on the delivery of services, activities, and issues within the state.

Club and Class Support:

  • Work with clubs and class associations to improve governance, planning, facilities, workforce, membership services, events, marketing, and leadership.
  • Activate the AS Stakeholder Engagement Plan in the state and develop relationships with clubs and class associations.
  • Take responsibility for delivering conferences, such as the State Sailing Summit and Instructor/Coach Conference.

Participation Growth:

  • Implement strategies to grow the participant base and provide pathways for participants, coaches, officials, and administrators.
  • Support clubs to become Discover Sailing Centres and ensuring they offer Australian Sailing programs.
  • Connect clubs to schools and other organisations to grow participation.

Workforce Training:

  • Coordinate and administer training courses and connect clubs to new instructors, officials, and coaches.
  • Build positive working relationships with senior instructors and coaches.
  • Develop and maintain a calendar of training courses and ensure visibility on revSPORT.

Project Involvement:

  • Participate in cross-departmental and/or cross-state project teams focused on product development and support resources for clubs.

Who Are You?

  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and organisational skills.
  • Experience in customer service and working with a diverse range of stakeholders/volunteers.
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Passionate about sailing and committed to the growth of the sport.
  • Sailing experience, with sailing qualifications (instructor, coach, or officials) highly desirable.
  • Must have own transportation and can travel for visits to sailing clubs throughout NSW and ACT.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Required: relevant State Working with Children Check, NSW Car Driver's License.
  • Desirable: Sailing qualifications and/or experience, experience working or volunteering with a Sailing Club, tertiary qualifications in sport management/business/management/training, State Boat Drivers License, First-Aid Certificate.
