Located on Awabakal land in Newcastle, we currently have exciting opportunities for you to support our clients, including respected Elders, by facilitating connections to culture and community. This role focuses on enhancing social and cultural connectedness and improving well-being outcomes for Aboriginal individuals, thereby fostering meaningful client relationships and supporting Aboriginal cultures and languages.

These are part-time ongoing positions tailored towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, although we welcome applications from all candidates. As part of our unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion, priority will be given to these candidates during the selection process.

You will undergo extensive training during your orientation, with continuous learning and development opportunities that include:

  • Specialized training programs
  • Shadow shifts with experienced Disability Support Workers
  • Possibility to achieve industry qualifications like Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate IV in Disability

Duties will involve:

  • Creating and facilitating cultural journeys for Aboriginal clients through community activities to promote social and emotional well-being
  • Providing personalized support in group home settings, including meal assistance, personal care, medication administration, and manual handling
  • Implementing culturally appropriate activities in group homes like musical therapy with traditional instruments or storytelling and art sessions
  • Empowering clients to make informed choices and develop independence skills
  • Transporting clients when necessary using CPA's minivan

Requirements:

  • Dedication and genuine commitment to preserving clients' cultural, spiritual, and physical connection to their land
  • Familiarity with Closing the Gap Targets and Outcomes is advantageous
  • Ability to navigate complex family dynamics among diverse clients
  • Preferably holds a current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 minimum)
  • Resides in proximity to Awabakal land
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the social and cultural needs of Aboriginal individuals and families
