About the Role

The AER is seeking a reliable candidate to manage the operations and governance of the Customer Consultative Group (a panel of consumer advocates/stakeholders) for the Australian Energy Regulator. This role is critical to the continued function of this group and for the AER to continue to obtain important insights into consumer needs particularly as the energy market transitions.

The role aims to influence AER staff to drive engagement with CCG member, so that AER staff use their input to influence the AER's work program.

The candidate would be responsible for the end-to-end management of CCG meetings, from planning meeting dates, to working with subject matter experts across the AER to develop future agenda items and areas for the CCG to discuss and influence, to post-meeting wrap up. As such, the ideal candidate would have some event management/administration experience, in additional to communications and community/consumer engagement experience.

In addition, the candidate will be responsible for driving the AER's first outreach strategy, working in conjunction with the Assistant Director. This requires an understanding, or ability to quickly acquire an understanding, of ways to gain on the ground insights into the consumer experience with a particular focus on various segments of consumers, and ability to communicate to consumers in plain English, either directly or via trusted advocates.

  • leading and progressing the delivery of an outreach strategy, including tools and materials for customers to confidently engage with the energy market.
  • build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, AER Board members, formal consumer engagement mechanisms, consumer groups, energy market participants and Government (Federal and State/Territory).

  • Ability to understand consumer challenges in the energy sector.
