The Company:
Resourceful Recruitment is collaborating with one of the major players in Australia's fuel industry. They are responsible for processing crude oil into various petroleum products like gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and bitumen. Since its establishment in 1965, the refinery has significantly contributed to both local and national fuel supplies.

Role Overview:
We are in search of a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to take charge of and enhance process safety performance at the refinery. This position plays a crucial role in managing evaluations related to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), facilitating Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) including HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPA, Bowtie, SFARP, and risk assessments, leading incident investigations, reporting safety performance, and continuously improving safety processes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Process Safety Improvements: Identify and implement enhancements to reduce significant safety incidents.
  • Risk Assessments: Serve as a Technical Evaluator in the MOC system, lead risk assessments using approved processes, and conduct incident investigations using root cause analysis.
  • Process Safety Studies: Coordinate studies such as consequence assessments and dispersion studies to comprehend risks.
  • Safety Assessments: Conduct HAZOPs, HAZID, Bowties, LOPA, and SFAIRP studies, develop action plans, communicate outcomes, and manage action tracking.
  • Dangerous Goods Manifest: Ensure accurate maintenance of the manifest.
  • MHF Safety Case: Keep the Safety Case updated including the QRA to support license renewal and facilitate SFARP justification for major incidents.
  • Safety Monitoring: Monitor safety and risk management metrics, evaluate incidents, identify room for improvement, and keep abreast of industry trends and regulations.
  • Safety Controls: Regularly inspect, verify safeguards, and control effectiveness to identify gaps.
  • Safety Audits: Coordinate major risk audits, regulatory inspections, and insurer surveys.
  • Superintendent Role: Serve as the Process Safety Superintendent as required, manage resources, and cover absences.
  • Visible Safety Leadership: Conduct safety inspections and engage in field conversations as part of visible safety leadership.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Chartered Professional Engineer
  • 5+ years' experience with a minimum of 3 years in the Petrochemical or oil refinery sector
  • Experience in leading Risk Assessments workshops such as HAZOPS, LOPA, and Bowtie
  • Understanding of Process Safety Information (PSI), Management of Change (MoC), and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes
  • Detailed knowledge of refining process technology, utilities, and best practices
