The Company:


Resourceful Recruitment are partnering one of Australia's largest Fuel suppliers, who plays a crucial role in the nation's energy infrastructure, processing crude oil into a variety of petroleum products including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and bitumen.

Established in 1965, the refinery has a significant production capacity, contributing to both local and national fuel supplies.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to lead and enhance process safety performance at our refinery.

This role is critical in managing HSE evaluations, facilitating PHAs (HAZIDs, HAZOPs), LOPA, Bowtie, SFARP, and risk assessments, leading incident investigations, reporting on safety performance, and driving continuous improvement in safety processes.


Your Responsibilities:

Process Safety Improvements:
Identify and implement enhancements to reduce significant safety incidents.

Risk Assessments:
Serve as Technical Evaluator in the MOC system and facilitate risk assessments using approved processes.
Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis.

Process Safety Studies:
Coordinate studies such as consequence assessments and dispersion studies to understand risks.

Safety Assessments:
Facilitate HAZOPs, HAZID, Bowties, LOPA, and SFAIRP studies, develop action plans, communicate outcomes, and manage action tracking.

Dangerous Goods Manifest:
Ensure the manifest is maintained accurately.

MHF Safety Case:

Maintain and update the Safety Case, including the QRA, to support licence renewal and facilitate SFARP justification for major incidents.


Safety Monitoring:
Maintain safety and risk management metrics, assess incidents, and identify improvement opportunities.
Stay updated on industry trends and regulations.

Safety Controls:
Perform regular inspections, safeguard checks, and control verifications to ensure effectiveness and identify gaps.

Safety Audits:
Coordinate major risk audits, including regulator and insurer surveys.

Superintendent Role:
Act as Process Safety Superintendent as needed, managing resources and covering leave.

Visible Safety Leadership:
Conduct safety inspections and field conversations as part of visible safety leadership.

Essential Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
Chartered Professional Engineer
5+ years' experience with a minimum of 3 years in Petrochemical or oil refinery
Experience in Facilitating Risk Assessments workshops in HAZOPS, LOPA and Bowtie
Understanding of Process Safety Information (PSI), Management of Change (Mo C), and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes
Detailed knowledge of refining process technology, utilities, and best practices Next Steps
