About the Centre/Service


Malvern Special Needs Playgroup provides a unique community setting for pre-school children with special needs and more complex requirements that are not well catered for in other early childhood education settings.

Our service provides one-on-one volunteer care for the children under the expert guidance of a team of allied health professionals (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech pathologist), a kindergarten teacher and a coordinator.

The service provides an early intervention social program twice a week - on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm - for up to 11 children in each session.

Our playgroup operates from the Maternal and Child Health Centre (Stonnington Council) at 22 McArthur Street, Malvern.

Description

  • To support the implementation of an approved learning framework and support the children's wellbeing, learning and development.
  • To plan a program that is inclusive to all children of varying needs and abilities, that will aid in their cognitive, social and emotional, fine and gross motor and communication skills.
  • To support each child to participate in the planned program and support the volunteers.
  • To ensure that the staff, volunteers and the children utilize effective health and hygiene practices, including meeting all regulations relating to food safety and preparations, medical management plans, risk management plans, policies and procedures.
  • To work cooperatively, ethically and respectfully with the other therapists, volunteers and the coordinator.
  • To develop respectful, supportive, collaborative and responsible relationships with the children and their families.
  • To be aware of the social, cultural and religious backgrounds of the children and knowledge of inclusive practices.
  • To report all accidents, hazards and other OHS issues to the coordinator.
  • To have knowledge of Child Protection Procedures.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To attend professional development opportunities and network meetings as appropriate or directed by the coordinator.
  • To attend weekly staff meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Early Childhood Education or equivalent as recognised by ACECQA.
  • VIT registered.
  • Knowledge/experience in the implementation of the National Quality Standards ad the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.
  • Current First Aid as prescribed in the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010.
  • Anaphylaxis and Asthma training as prescribed.
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Check.
  • Child Protection/mandatory reporting training.
