About the Opportunity:

We have a fantastic opportunity available for a motivated Civic Space Maintenance Team Member to join our Civic Space Department at Strathfield Council, participating in tasks relating to the Civic Space Maintenance Team and assist in the following duties:

  • Patrol the Municipality, open spaces, and other Council properties within the local government area to:
  • Identify, report/record and remove graffiti within LGA
  • Identify abandoned vehicles and articles
  • Identify and arrange removal of unauthorized signage and structures on public land
  • Report irregularities in signposting, damaged / faulty Council assets
  • Identify and prevent unauthorized use of Council facilities (eg, sports grounds)
  • Detect incidents of littering and rubbish dumping and take necessary action in identifying offenders and arranging prompt removal of rubbish
  • Identify cleansing maintenance requirements within Civic Spaces
  • Customer Requests that require urgent attention
  • Basic repairs resulting from unprogrammed, absenteeism, urgent requests, or emergency situations, or make safe, open space infrastructure vandalised or damaged including buildings, furniture, seats, bbq's, toilets, irrigations systems, taps, signs, poles, windows, fences, playground equipment, concrete & asphalt surfaces, footpaths, driveways, etc.
  • Maintaining accurate and uptodate records and statistical information for all Civic Space Maintenance Team activities including graffiti register, playground repairs and maintenance undertaken, and number of penalty notices issued.
  • Keeping Council vehicles and equipment secure, clean and accounted for at all times.
  • Be oncall to ensure the effective and timely response after hours' emergencies.
  • Undertaking other duties within the scope of this role as directed by the Civic Space Maintenance Team Leader

About You:

  • Current Class MR Driver's Licence;
  • Current and valid Excavator and Skid Steer/Front End Loader tickets;
  • Traffic Control Certificates;
  • AQF 3 chemical accreditation;
  • Proven capacity to work in a team environment;
  • Have and maintain a level of physical fitness to carry out the demands of the role;
  • Basic organisational and planning skills together with the ability to prioritise work to meet the demands of the position within competing timeframes;
  • Ability to identify and implement creative solutions and improvements in the operational activities;
  • Effective oral and interpersonal communication skills including demonstrated ability in managing conflict and dealing with difficult customers;
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and independently without close supervision;
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and achievement of, Council's values and behaviours;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to quality customer service;
  • Demonstrated commitment to EEO, WH&S and cultural diversity principals.

Salary and Conditions**:

The salary range for this position is $56,700 to $65,00 p.a. dependent upon the applicant's qualifications and experience + 10.5% Superannuation.
