About the Opportunity:

Strathfield Council is seeking a dedicated and capable Apprentice Greenkeeper to join our team of open spaces workers.


This role provides the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team to assist with the day to day maintenance and presentation of council's sports fields and overall civic and open space team.

where you can learn on the job with qualified Greenkeepers to mentor you and to gain a trade qualification.

The role entails:

  • Completing sports field maintenance program components/requests associated with a high level of service delivery;
  • Maintaining fleet, plant and tools to support operational activities;
  • Assisting the Sports Field Team Leader with the completion of reasonably requested duties.

About You:

  • You will enjoy working outside in the fresh air amongst astonishing open spaces.
  • You will feel a sense of reward from completing tasks that ensures our parks and open spaces are wellmaintained for our communities' appreciation.
  • Eligible or currently enrolled in a Certificate III/IV in Sports Turf Management or related course.
  • School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Hold a current NSW Class C, P1 or P2 Driver's licence or obtain a NSW Class C, P1 or P2 Driver's licence within 12 months of starting date.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to undertaking the apprenticeship including both on and off the job training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively either alone or in a team.
  • Ability to provide a high standard of customer service to internal and external customers
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to high standards of service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, show initiative and "think outside the square"
  • Demonstrated ability to participate effectively in work teams and with individuals. Demonstrated commitment to achieving council's values, WHS procedures and organisational behaviours
  • Experience in green keeping or horticulture field (DESIRABLE)
  • General Safety (White Card) Induction Certificate (DESIRABLE)

Salary and Conditions**:

The salary range for this position is $44,236.40 to $50, % Super, dependent upon the applicant's qualifications and experience.
