CSIRO Environment integrates our main environmental research capability to strengthen our ability to address the complex and interrelated environmental issues facing Australia.

This role is within the Bushfire Adaptation team within CSIRO's Environment Business Unit as part of the Living Landscapes Program with the benefit to be a part of a complex suite of projects under the National Bushfire Intelligence Capability (NBIC).


The team is seeking a highly motivated User experience practitioner to play a pivotal role in within the NBIC program.

You'll have the opportunity to work across both data providers and data users within the three key domains of Land Use Planning, Land Management and Emergency Management, understanding the overall user needs and the change process required to address these needs.


The Bushfire Adaptation team is primarily based in Melbourne however we are open to considering Canberra too, and you will interact with other teams within CSIRO who are geographically dispersed throughout Australia.

This role will provide the opportunity for continual learning and innovation, and you will work with a highly skilled and diverse team.


Your duties will include:

  • Reviewing and draw on existing stakeholder interviews and user research conducted by the NBIC team, and in consultation with stream leads and external expert consultants, design and implement a user needs assessment plan.
  • Tracking and supporting the impact pathway of these products by contributing to and monitoring the role out and uptake phase of these products among the stakeholders.
  • Leading or contributing to interpreting and communicating scientific research and technological results.

*AU$105k - AU$142k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A tertiary degree and significant subsequent research and industry experience in a relevant discipline area, such as environmental science, social science or equivalent relevant work experience in human-centred design or user experience-related area.
  • Demonstrated highlevel experience in designing and leading stakeholder engagement strategies and implementation drawing upon humancentred design methodologies for large complex projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing the path to impact monitoring and evaluation of impact strategies to monitor and measure the codesign and eventual adoption and uptake of outputs.
  • Demonstrated highlevel oral communication abilities, interpersonal skills and capacity for perseverance, including a track record of working constructively with colleagues, collaborators and clients and the ability to remain productive, positive and resilient in complex, ambiguous and/or uncertain environments

_Desirable_:

  • Established knowledge and understanding of bushfire processes, risk analysis and mitigation.
  • Ability to articulate complex scientific concepts, as demonstrated by experience in the generation of technical reports or peerreviewed journal articles.
