Director Operations Emergency Management

Queensland Ambulance Service

(Organisation site )Office of the Chief Operating Officer; Head Office; GeebungThe QAS Emergency Management Unit (EMU) delivers statewide policies and plans, regional support, deployable resources and training courses that maintain and strengthen the QAS response to operational escalation periods, major incidents, natural disasters and significant complex scheduled and unscheduled events. The Director Operations, EMU will have patient centric oversight as the role provides direction, support and subject matter expertise in managing and maintaining the development, implementation and review of statewide operational policies, procedures, strategies, planning and projects relating to emergency management and specialised state operations support.


The Director Operations, EMU may also be requested to represent the Commissioner at State and National forums, executive meetings and committees as required.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:

Superior leadership and management capabilities and experience in delivering effective emergency management programs within a complex emergency medical system environment.

Demonstrated experience in contemporary best practice emergency management planning, education delivery and policy development, and the proven ability to provide authoritative advice in relation to emergency management strategies and procedures.

Demonstrated high level oral and written communication, negotiation, consultation and collaboration skills and the proven ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of achieving required performance standards and organisational objectives.
Demonstratable high level of planning in emergency management, crisis management and/or contingency planning.

Proven ability to successfully lead and inspire a large, diverse and multidisciplinary workforce in an environment of competing priorities and needs with limited resources.

Demonstrated capacity to identify and develop new ways forward and think strategically and creatively to provide innovative and effective solutions to new or existing issues.

Demonstrated commitment to implement practices which promote a fair and ethical workplace, employment equity, cultural diversity and occupational health and safety.
