About the role

The Assistant Nursing Director is a key leadership role within Prison Health Services that is responsible for providing senior nursing leadership and operational management within the service.

This role will support the Nursing Director in managing the increased operational demand resulting from the significant growth of the service.

As a part of the Prison Health Services Senior Leadership Team, the focus of this role will include:

  • Nursing leadership across the service including:
  • Leadership of business planning frameworks
  • Workforce planning and development
  • Nursing recruitment
  • Professional nursing support to prison staffing office
  • Nursing workforce initiatives and projects
  • Nursing graduate program
  • Key Responsibilities for the role include direct comprehensive care or provision of direct care, support of systems, education and research and professional leadership.
About you

  • Demonstrates specialised knowledge and skills in complex, contemporary nursing practice, working autonomously and within a multidisplinary team to promote and enhance safe delivery of nursing care within the prison health service.
  • Demonstrated advanced capability in stakeholder consultation and engagement, employing highly developed written and oral communications and highly effective interpersonal skills of consultation, negotiation, conflict resolution and relationship management that influence effectively and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Possesses advanced clinical leadership qualities recognised to assess, guide and contribute to implementation of innovative and evidence based practices.
  • Provide expert professional advice to primary health care providers regarding service delivery, clinical assessments and care planning across the continuum, including risk management.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • A Queensland Corrective Services check will be undertaken on persons recommended for employment
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/1
  • Vaccinated against COVID19 as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO.12/21and the Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70.
