The Opportunity:

Join the forward-thinking team at Visy's Operational Excellence division, where we are pioneers in packaging technology and solutions. We are currently on the lookout for a talented Packaging Technologist to assist our Food Can Division and contribute to our pursuit of excellence.

As a Reporting to the Primary Laboratory Manager, the Packaging Technologist will play a crucial role in the development and analysis of packaging materials and designs, ensuring that our packaging solutions maintain their integrity and stay innovative.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee packaging study programs ensuring timely delivery of results and innovative suggestions.
  • Evaluate the compatibility of packaging materials with product requirements.
  • Conduct measurements of material strength, barrier properties, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Prepare samples for external laboratory analysis for material composition and recyclability.
  • Assist in new packaging designs and related investigations.
  • Ensure packaging integrity tests are conducted accurately and reported promptly.
  • Set up machinery in the Packaging Laboratory to meet divisional needs.
  • Propose enhancements and create new experimental methods and testing procedures for packaging.
  • Provide technical support and advice in collaboration with the Packaging Technology Divisional Manager.
  • Maintain awareness of production sites and technical contacts in the packaging industry.
  • Uphold a safe working environment through proper housekeeping and adherence to 5S principles.
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders across all divisions with a focus on packaging innovation.
  • Communicate with manufacturing sites and internal customers to clarify work requests and offer packaging solutions.
  • Review and release test reports, ensuring full traceability of packaging samples.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
  • Tertiary qualification in Packaging Technology/Food Technology Engineering/Chemistry or related field.
  • Experience in packaging development or quality assurance packaging experience is advantageous.
  • Solid technical knowledge of packaging materials and machinery.
  • Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and problems-solving skills.
