Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven's major referral and teaching hospital and has bed base of more than 500.

The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing
To provide safe, efficient and effective supply of medications to patients of Wollongong Hospital under the supervision of pharmacists.

This includes:

dispensing for inpatient and outpatients, preparation and manufacture of sterile and non-sterile medications including cytotoxic products, pre packing medications, distribution and maintenance of pharmacy imprest ward stock and other administrative tasks relevant to the position.

This position will include the participation in the weekend and public holiday roster and may require work at other pharmacy departments within the LHD.


All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant experience working in a hospital pharmacy department in Australia or dispensing experience in an Australia community pharmacy, with appropriate qualifications as per the Health Employees State Award.

Pharmacy Assistant Grade 1:
no formal qualifications Pharmacy Assistant Grade 2: holds a qualification in a relevant field up to the level of Certificate III in Community Pharmacy Pharmacy Technician Grade 1: holds a qualification in a relevant field up to the level of Certificate III in Hospital Pharmacy Pharmacy Technician Grade 2: holds a qualification in Certificate IV in Hospital Pharmacy

  • Proven organisational and problem solving skills including the ability to work independently, with mínimal supervision and in a busy environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in performing all tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and other stakeholders to improve patient care and contribute to a positive workplace culture
  • Ability to understand and adhere to policies, procedures and legislative requirements
  • Demonstrated experience performing routine pharmacy tasks using electronic systems such as iPharmacy, eMeds and Powerchart
