The Role


The purpose of this role is to support, create and compile material for Living Black, Living Black Conversations and Investigations, Karla Grant Presents and one-off special programs as required by NITV.


As part of the NITV team the Investigations Producer is responsible for undertaking work in a way that reflects SBS's Charter, Vision and Values and complies with relevant NITV/SBS policies, procedures and practices.

Reporting into the Executive Producer within our Living Black team this role will see you but not limited to:

  • Contribute to the editorial direction of Living Black programs, research and initiate to creative program story ideas.
  • Contact, line up, and preinterview guests for Conversations, studio forums/panels and investigations.
  • Prepare briefs, program structures, shooting scripts and scripts.
  • Supervise edits of interviews, stories and news packages.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Producer, oversee the entire production of programs from conception through to TX.
  • Travel to locations across Australia, as requested and with a high degree of initiative
  • Liaise with interviewees and stakeholders regarding travel and record day arrangements.

About you

  • Experience as a television journalist with experience in writing longform stories, with sound knowledge of production techniques in longform current affairs. Highlevel writing and directing skills.
  • An understanding of the importance of digital audiences as part of the broader NITV strategy
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work under pressure working to strict deadlines
  • Proven knowledge of First Nations issues with a wide range of contacts.
