We are seeking an investigations reporter to join our team and undertake agenda-setting investigations in line with Guardian Australia's strategic objectives.


In this role you will

  • Devise and undertake highimpact investigations for Guardian Australia, and conceive innovative ways to tell investigative stories
  • Identify stories that require investigation and, with the editor and senior team, assess and prioritise proposed projects
  • Acquire and nurture contacts
  • Produce clean, accurate copy to deadline
  • Check stories for accuracy and legal compliance, ensure all potential legal issues resolved prior to publishing
  • Work with the major projects, investigations and planning team on stories and ideas
  • Work on collaborative reporting projects with other reporters, news editors, data specialists and multimedia journalists
  • Be guided by major projects, investigations and planning team as to daily and weekly priorities including news stories

You'll bring.

  • Previous experience of producing agenda setting investigations
  • Experience working in a fast changing, and high pressure environment, preferably on a news website
  • Significant journalistic experience, including conducting complex investigations
  • A strong news sense, along with a highly developed understanding of media law
  • Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
  • A passion for independent journalism and an understanding of our editorial code and values
