About the team
SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator.

Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation and improving the safety culture in NSW workplaces.


About the role

Your duties may include:

  • Provide technical advice regarding safe work practices and how to comply with work health and safety and associated legislation
  • Conduct workplace visits and investigations into workplace incidents, injuries and fatalities to ensure psychologically healthy and safe workplaces
  • Provide advice and support on psychosocial hazards, including presentations regarding compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide advice, guidance, support and dispute resolution to industry, workers and other government agencies on prevention and response matters relating to psychosocial hazards
  • Manage complex psychosocial issues whilst balancing stakeholder interests and ensuring WHS outcomes are achieved and promoted
  • Conduct research to identify, plan and deliver strategies in relation to the management of psychosocial hazards and risk factors related to psychological illness and injury
  • Participate in external business forums on behalf of the regulatory authority such as industry working parties and seminars.
  • Requirement to undertake workplace visits (travel across NSW may be required), make enquiries, gather evidence and take compliance action
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including law enforcement authorities and policymakers

  • Contribute to capacity building across the SafeWork NSW inspectorate on managing risks associated with psychosocial hazards.

To be successful, you will:

  • Have qualifications and relevant professional industry experience in fields such as Health Science, Applied Science, occupational rehabilitation, workers compensation insurance, injury management, work health and safety
  • Have exceptional communication skills to engage and influence key stakeholders to improve regulatory outcomes
  • Be a team player who is passionate about workplace safety, inclusion and diversity, is results focussed and will actively contribute to a culture of knowledgesharing and continuous improvement
  • Have a high degree of integrity, excellent judgement and ability to scan, analyse and identify needs and gaps
  • Have excellent analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Be resilient and have the ability to work autonomously and be part of a diverse team
  • Be able to take factual notes and write comprehensive reports
  • Have the ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner
  • Be a team player who is passionate about contributing to the reduction of workplace injuries and improving support for injured workers

  • Work a 38hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service
  • Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use (currently at a cost of approximately $200 per fortnight)
  • Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements

Essential requirements:

  • Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
  • Hold a NSW 'C' class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
