Are you a dynamic professional with a genuine care for people as well as a passion for animals and our industry? Can you pivot easily and reprioritise in an ever-changing environment? We're looking for a dedicated experienced veterinary nurse with the ability to multitask and coordinate a team, while delivering exceptional care to pets in a fast-paced environment.

Your responsibilities as a lead nurse will extend beyond clinical duties. You will play an instrumental role in supporting our Nurse & Patient Care Manager to contribute to the overall success of our team and liaise closely with our lead veterinarian to ensure the smooth operation of our hospital on a day-to-day basis.

We are committed to upholding diversity, equality, inclusion and belonging – fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued for their unique contributions. Our core values set the standards for our behaviour, our service to pets and their guardians, and our treatment of one another.

We are the first Carbon Neutral veterinary practice in Queensland and aim to share our care messaging beyond the boundaries of people and their pets.

Role Responsibility:

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures.
  • Monitor patients undergoing medical/surgical treatment and identifying when a change in care is required.
  • Maintain surgical and treatment areas in line with infection control policies.
  • Provide compassionate nursing care to hospitalised animals.
  • Provide education and support to pet owners.
  • Contribute to a clean and organised environment within the clinic.
  • Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure seamless patient care.

In addition, as a Lead Nurse you will:

  • Assist the Nurse & Patient Care Manager in supervising and mentoring the wider nursing team.
  • Arrange maintenance of medical equipment and regular ordering through a variety of suppliers.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly by maintaining a cohesive team working style and identifying when a change in workflow is required.
  • Encourage and uphold healthy work habits through forward planning and clear communication.
  • Work with the Nurse & Patient Care Manager to develop and update hospital policies and procedures.
  • Continually uphold the core values of Greater Springfield Veterinary and encourage other staff to do the same.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Certificate IV or equivalent.
  • Flexibility to work 30 to 38 hours per week with a variety of shifts between 7am and 9pm, and 2 weekends out of 4.
  • Strong surgical, medical, and practical nursing skills.
  • Compassion for animals and a genuine desire to provide excellent client service.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to have difficult conversations.
  • A focus on continued growth.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional maturity.
  • A team mentality and positive attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software, experience with Ezyvet, Smartflow, and IDEXX Machines is highly desirable.

What We Offer:

  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • A positive, supportive, and collaborative team environment.
  • Access to an EAP and a dedicated and trustworthy in-house wellness team.
  • The chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of animals and their families.
  • State-of-the-art facilities and equipment to enhance your nursing skills.
  • Enrolment into the Lincoln Institute Emerging Leaders program which focuses on personal development and skills required to succeed in the veterinary industry.
