The Position
The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO) is the primary agency for geospatial data, information, and intelligence, known as Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) for Defence and government. The AGO works across various intelligence issues and matters of national significance, enabling military operations, delivering Defence capability, and contributing to national security outcomes.

We are hiring for AGO's Policy, Compliance, and Governance team, seeking outstanding candidates to fill multiple APS6 Compliance Officer Team Lead roles. This team provides vital support to AGO mission areas.

You will play a key role in understanding compliance issues, providing services and training to maintain the organization's strong compliance record. As an AGO Compliance Officer Team Lead, you will also:

  • Contribute to AGO's oversight of legislative obligations under the Intelligence Services Act 2001.
  • Develop corporate knowledge to understand how AGO conducts its activities.
  • Provide accurate, evidence-based, and timely compliance and policy advice.
  • Maintain AGO's relationship with the Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization and partner agencies to ensure the right policy settings and frameworks are in place.
  • Engage with mission areas to offer tailored compliance advice.
  • Develop authorization documents for high-risk activities.
  • Facilitate training and engage with stakeholders to provide tailored compliance guidance.
  • Manage and lead the team by mentoring new members and delegating tasks effectively.

This role is eligible for a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP), providing a premium in addition to the base salary for critical positions.

We collaborate effectively within AGO, Defence, and the broader Australian Public Service to deliver geospatial intelligence in support of national interest.

  • Demonstrate strategic judgment in providing expert advice to senior decision-makers.
  • Build strong working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Apply problem-solving skills to complex scenarios.
  • Have experience in managing teams and supporting staff development.
  • Thrive in a dynamic environment.
