Our Coles Digital division is expanding significantly as we invest in enhancing the premier online shopping experience for our customers. We are on the lookout for a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing Data and Business Intelligence team in fortifying our future data capabilities.

About the Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead the development of a semantic layer within the Coles Digital Snowflake environment to provide intuitive and efficient data access for our business. You will oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of data pipelines and architectures using Snowflake to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.

About you and your skills

- Over 5 years of experience as a Senior Data Engineer focusing on Snowflake and the Microsoft Azure cloud platform
- Proficient in Snowflake, including data modeling, SQL optimization, and performance enhancement
- Track record of designing and building semantic layers within Snowflake or similar platforms
- In-depth knowledge of data governance principles and hands-on experience in implementing governance frameworks
- Establishment and enforcement of best practices for data governance, security, and compliance within Snowflake and Power BI environments
- Expertise in data architecture development and democratization of data for business use
- Familiarity with various data tools including OLTP and OLAP tools on-premises and in the cloud (Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Data Factory)
- Advanced SQL skills for developing data transformations
- Proficiency in data modeling using star/snowflake schemas
- Ability to extract data from different formats and sources across various data timeliness
- Experience in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala for data transformations
- Knowledge of ETL delivery standards and establishing object-oriented data pipelines using non-SQL languages
- Familiarity with data visualization and BI tools, particularly Power BI
- Understanding of DevOps practices such as CI/CD for data outputs and automated testing
