About the Role

The School of Languages and Linguistics is seeking to appoint a Senior Tutor to coordinate and teach subjects in the German Studies program for Semester 2, 2024.

This is an exciting opportunity to join contribute to the German Studies program at the University of Melbourne. As a Senior Tutor, you will be primarily responsible for coordinating and teaching German 2 and German Cultural Studies A, with the possibility of additional teaching opportunities as they arise.

While there is some flexibility in the breakdown of work activity, approximately 80% of the work will be devoted to teaching, with the remainder committed to administration, service and, where relevant, scholarship.

Your responsibilities will include:

Support subject coordinators in the successful delivery of teaching to a high standard. Prepare and conduct tutorials, seminars and, where appropriate, lecture. Prepare, administer and mark assessments in accordance with subject guidelines in the University Handbook. Where appropriate, undertake subject coordination duties including the development of Learning Management System sites and subject guides and the management of assessment extension request. Consult with undergraduate students.

Who We Are Looking For
 We are seeking a committed and engaging educator with experience of teaching at tertiary level, with a commitment to inclusivity in student learning, and the ability to work collaboratively with students.

You will possess extensive organisational skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills including a demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

You will also have:

A completed Honours or Master's Degree (Tutor) or PhD (Senior Tutor) in a relevant discipline, with a demonstrated specialisation in German Studies. Native or near-native competence in German and in English. Demonstrated experience in teaching German at beginners and intermediate level (A1/A2 of the European Framework) at a tertiary education level. Demonstrated track record of effective teaching and learning practices, including capacity to coordinate tertiary level subjects and a proven ability to develop educational resources. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the learning orientations of a diverse student cohort, combined with the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding to create inclusive learning environments.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
