Job Summary:
An exciting opportunity to join ConocoPhillips Australia in the role of Drilling Superintendent.


This role will be an agency managed contingent role based in our Brisbane office or Perth for an initial 12 month period.


Job Description:

ConocoPhillips' Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas.

We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia.

ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone.

We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.

The Drilling Superintendent will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • To deliver top quartile HSE and operational performance.
  • To implement safe, environmentally sound and efficient drilling, well testing and abandonment operations.
  • Ensure accurate reporting in Wellview through QA of reports on a daily basis with cost control and accounting in accordance with SAP procedures and guidelines.
  • To ensure regulatory and corporate policy conformance in all well operations.
  • To implement planned operations within the time schedule and funds budgeted.
  • To develop and effectively implement equipment/operational procedures.
  • To undertake timely and appropriate risk analyses and peer reviews.
  • To develop competent and motivated Well Operations team offshore members.
  • To develop safety conscious and effective drilling and service contractors.
  • To provide direct supervision during all phases of Well operations.
  • To effectively manage simultaneous well construction and well intervention operations.
  • To verify that drilling rigs and equipment are fit for purpose.
  • To implement platform rig upgrades as required.
  • Performance Management of offshore drilling supervisors.
  • Rig Operational Efficiency.
  • Rig Equipment Recertification's and/or modifications.

About you:

You will be an experienced Drilling Superintendent, bringing to the role:

  • A valid IWCF Level 4 certification for surface and subsea operations and offshore survival training completed prior to start date
  • 10+ years of offshore drilling with 2+ years of floating drilling operations
  • Experienced in well operations disciplines, including COP best practices
  • Strong communication, teamwork and problemsolving skills
  • Prior experience planning and execution of an offshore exploration/appraisal drilling program
  • Prior experience building and managing teams
  • Prior experience with contract tendering, contract development, negotiations, and contract management
  • A Proven trackrecord collaborating and engaging with multiple disciplines and functions
  • Prior experience tracking cost, budgeting, and general administrative functions.
  • Experience conducting operations in harsh weather environments
  • Working knowledge of the Australian O&G sector
  • Experience with the Australian regulatory environment
