Overview: Teck Global is seeking a highly experienced Lead Structural Designer to lead our team of structural designers and drafting team for the design of modular buildings. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving design standards, ensuring continuous improvement, effectively managing change, and leading the team to achieve optimal performance in terms of schedule, cost, and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of structural designers and drafting team.
  • Allocate resources effectively across projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Monitor design progress and report on the performance of the design team against schedule and cost metrics.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Design Process Improvement:

  • Manage a multi-discipline design, integrating multiple packages of HVAC, Passive and Active Fire, Electrical and Lighting
  • Develop and enhance design processes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that lessons learned are incorporated into design standards.
  • Build and maintain a standard library of connection details with a thorough understanding of their characteristics.

Technical Expertise:

  • Liaise with the project delivery team to optimise construction outcomes, reduce material costs, and minimize construction time.
  • Provide detailed reviews and checks of design documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Understand and manage scopes of work and contribute to the tendering process.
  • Understanding constructability requirements and manufacturing constraints

Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with supply chain, internal teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Liaise with construction team to provide timely feedback and technical support
  • Effectively manage and control design changes to meet project objectives.

Training and Development:

  • Recruit and build new capabilities into the team
  • Develop an effective and capable design team through continuous learning and development initiatives.
  • Make informed decisions with a data backed framework

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of design experience with a strong background in structural design.
  • Experience with Australian Standards, Building codes and Compliance requirements
  • Bachelor of Engineering in civil or structural engineering, or Relevant Qualifications (Defence/Trade/Diploma)
  • In-depth understanding of Revit, Dynamo and BIM
  • Proven ability to deliver results through others and lead a team effectively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Extensive experience in design checking and verification of deliverables
  • Understanding of design process, design inputs, scheduling, revision control and document transmittals.
  • Ability to interpret scopes of work and the ability to support tendering activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in the design of transportable buildings. Including lifting, transportation and complexing requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to improve construction outcomes and reduce costs.
  • Strong track record of managing design teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
