Construction Project Manager, Data Center Capacity Delivery

This role is based in Sydney.

The Data Center Construction Manager (CM) oversees complex and efficient construction projects at a fast pace. Amazon Construction Managers strive for continuous improvement, aiming to deliver top-quality, technically advanced data centers globally. As a Data Center CM, you will work within a highly skilled and creative team that addresses the most intriguing challenges in constructing Amazon's data facilities. Amazon CMs lead innovation in the construction industry, concentrating on providing cutting-edge products to customers. Our data centers excel in energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Data Center CM is in charge of daily construction management, ensuring efficient oversight and management of contractors. Additionally, the CM plays a key role in their discipline, contributing to the construction of sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities of the Data Center Construction Manager:

  • Managing construction activities for new builds or capital projects in Melbourne, overseeing project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Optimizing costs and timelines while upholding quality standards.
  • Leading construction management for initiatives enhancing data center resiliency.
  • Assessing electrical and mechanical system constructs, contributing to new data center projects or enhancing existing ones.
  • Developing project scope and equipment requirements, managing proposals and capital requests.
  • Ensuring project quality through commissioning and integrated system testing, overseeing project execution.
  • Coordinating with engineers on construction administration and managing the Request for Information process.
  • Providing key metric reports to team members and leadership.
  • Managing multiple projects, including new data center builds and upgrades.
  • Supporting operational tasks for existing facilities, reviewing procedures and initiating maintenance projects.
  • Being a key leader within and outside the team supporting the data center.
  • Traveling to datacenter sites for audits, reviews, testing, and commissioning processes.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering.
- 7-10 years of experience in mission-critical facility design, construction, or program management.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and self-motivation.
- Proficiency in reading construction drawings across disciplines.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Advanced degree in Engineering or relevant field.
- Certifications such as PE, LEED, or CCM are a plus.
- Experience in data center construction, infrastructure projects, and vendor management.
- Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and power management systems.
- Alignment with Amazon's leadership principles and technical depth expectations.
