What you'll be doing


The Bilingual Mental Health Professional provides culturally competent mental health services to people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds (CALD) with a broad range of mental health issues.


The Bilingual Mental Health Professional will provide comprehensive culturally sensitive assessment and quality clinical intervention, facilitation of access to appropriate mainstream mental and general health clinical services, mental health education and promotion across the lifespan.


The position will carry a caseload and will provide consultation to other clinicians within North Shore Ryde Mental Health Service.

This position does not replace the use of interpreters.

  • Current AHPRA registration for relevant discipline
  • Psychology, Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse. Eligibility for membership with AASW for Social Workers.
  • Conduct culturally sensitive and recovery oriented assessment, intervention and care coordination to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) consumers and their families
  • Demonstrate expertise and provide consultancy in crosscultural issues to mental health professionals and other service providers to facilitate appropriate clinical practice to meet the needs of CALD consumers.
  • Establish links and collaborate with mainstream CALD community service providers and develop and maintain strong working partnerships between health services to facilitate access and engagement with mental health services
  • Ensure appropriate utilisation of health care interpreters (Health Care Interpreter Service HCIS) and referral, consultation and liaison with state tertiary services eg. Transcultural Mental Health Service (TMHS), Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS), to ensure best quality services are accessed and provided to CALD consumers
  • Initiate, contribute and participate in quality activities to improve the standard of care, service delivery and ensure that services are evidence based to meet the needs of diverse CALD communities
