Each year over 140,000 South Australians benefit from the services we deliver.


As a result of new funding, we have a number of exciting employment opportunities in 2023, within our Criminal Law Practice Division and our Family Law Division for Legal Officers at varying levels, both in the Adelaide metropolitan and Whyalla region.


Particular vacancies have arisen at the LSC3 level specialising in Youth Court practice (Criminal Law) and at the LSC3 level specialising in children's representation matters (Family Law).

These are exciting and rare opportunities to build a practice focussed on assisting and supporting some of the most disadvantaged children in the State.

Other opportunities at the LSC1 to LSC3 level are also available across all areas of criminal law defence practice and within our family law division, including with our Women's Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service (WDVCAS), which provide the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of South Australians facing hardship every day.

LSC1 Legal Officer - Criminal Law


The Legal Officer will undertake assigned summary and minor indictable criminal files under supervision as solicitor and counsel in the Magistrates and Youth Courts, as directed by the Manager, Criminal Law.


LSC1 Legal Officer / Duty Lawyer - Family Law


The Legal Officer / Duty Lawyer will assist in the provision of a duty solicitor service at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) and such other courts as may be required.


The Legal Officer / Duty Lawyer will provide legal advice and information to unrepresented persons involved in family law proceedings, liaise with court staff, practitioners and other organisations who may deal with the family law system and undertake family law files under supervision as solicitor and counsel in the FCFCOA and Youth Courts, as directed by the Manager, Family Law.


LSC2 Legal Officer - Criminal Law


The Legal Officer will undertake assigned summary, minor and major indictable criminal defence files including less complex Magistrates or Youth Court trials as counsel under general supervision as directed by the Manager, Criminal Law.

The Legal Officer will provide a backup duty solicitor service as required.


The Legal Officer will submit pleas in appropriate matters in the District Court and conduct as counsel, under supervision, sentence appeals and bail reviews.


LSC2 Legal Officer - Family Law Practice Team


The Legal Officer will undertake assigned legal aid files in family law matters including acting as children's representative in child protection proceedings under supervision and appearing as an advocate on behalf of adults in the FCFCOA.

The Legal Officer will appear as a representative in family dispute resolution matters including property matters.


The Legal Officer provides assistance with the duty lawyer service in the FCFCOA and across the Family Law Division as required.


LSC2 Legal Officer - WDVCAS - Family Law


As part of the role, the Legal Officer will establish and maintain relationships with key agencies and service providers responding to women who are affected by domestic violence including SAPOL Prosecutions, South Australian Courts, SACAT, Women's Safety Services SA, and other domestic violence support services including health and welfare professionals.


LSC3 Legal Officer - Criminal Law


The Legal Officer will undertake assigned summary, minor and major indictable criminal defence files including as both solicitor and counsel in matters before the Magistrates and Youth Courts, and as counsel in summary trials.

The Legal Officer will have the conduct of an assigned criminal law case file load as solicitor in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts.


The Legal Officer is required to act as counsel in Magistrates Court sentence and/or conviction appeals, and on bail reviews in the Supreme Court.

The Legal Officer is also required to appear as counsel in the District
