Anglo American Steelmaking Coal

Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.

In Australia, we operate five Steelmaking Coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in Steelmaking Coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North-West Queensland and Western Australia.


Job Description:

  • The Associate Program is a structured fouryear program combining fulltime work experience with parttime study through Central Queensland University. Your study will be financed, and you'll receive site expert support and mentorship to ensure your successful completion of the program. The Environment Associate role spans a range of environmental aspects including, water, air quality, noise, vibration, rehabilitation, biodiversity and circular economy, and other environmental aspects. You will learn these aspects and assist in striving to meet our legislative obligations, high safety benchmark, and 2040 zero waste goal.
Your role will see your assistance across the various tasks, including:

  • Auditing and reporting on environmental inspections, incidents and hazards.
  • Utalising and maintaining environmental equipment to gather samples and enter sample data into spreadsheets and databases.
  • Analysing sample data, audits, field instrument data and laboratory reports with environmental models to generate trends, assess implications, prioritise projects and manage key site environmental.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental projects, works and improvement plans by partnering with operational teams.
  • Providing advice, training, support and mentorship to operational teams on legislation, acts, and regulations.
  • Managing environmental services contractors and consultants.
The completion of the program further enhances your flexibility, support, and job security as you will:

  • Gain a nationally recognized, Associate certification,
  • Secure a permanent Environment position with the Company, or
  • Continue your studies within Environment or another functional area to secure a position within the Company.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:
  • High school English (C grade or higher),
    AND:
  • A secondary qualification (Year 12 or equivalent),
    OR:
  • An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma level qualification,
    OR:
We are looking for people to join us in the Associate role who meet the following criteria:

  • Interested in working in the mining industry in a hands-on technical role.
  • Currently located in or willing to relocate to one of our Northern Queensland mining communities.
  • Ability to undertake field activities in climatic conditions consistent with Central Queensland
  • Holds a current driver's licence (Provisional Licence at a minimum).
  • Works effectively as an independent or as part of a collaborative team.
  • Interprets data with a detailedorientated and solutionsfocused approach.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
