About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Child and Family Health Service as a Aboriginal Cultural Child and Family Support Consultant, where you will be responsible for:

  • Working within a team setting to provide responsive and flexible child-focused and family-centered support services.
  • Offering home and community-based support to Aboriginal families with children up to five years of age.
  • Contributing to improving health, development, and well-being outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.
  • Providing culturally appropriate parenting support to families.
  • Assisting families in engaging with health services within both CaFHS and the broader community.
  • Offering Aboriginal cultural consultancy and advice to team members.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • The ability to engage in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal communities and relate to and be accepted by Aboriginal families of diverse backgrounds adopting a non-judgemental approach
  • The ability to communicate well with, and gain the confidence and cooperation of, Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal persons whilst maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
  • The ability to Intervene in crisis situations and assist families to develop problem solving skills.
  • Experience in successfully working with Aboriginal families
  • Experience in the implementation of health promotion strategies including health education, community development and group work
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures including Aboriginal history, kinship systems and family structures, spirituality/religion, values and beliefs, behavioural expectations and family and community obligations and how this may create access barriers
