About the role


We are looking for an
Advisor - Technical and Governance to provide specialist advice to the business about the operation of (and to ensure compliance with) Rio Tinto's land use agreements and the Regional Framework Deed so as to ensure the smooth running of Rio Tinto's operations and good relationships with Pilbara Traditional Owners.

This role will also help facilitate conformance with Rio Tinto's community and social performance (CSP) standards to ensure ongoing support for business land access.

Reporting to the Lead, Agreements Delivery, Monitoring and Compliance you will be:

  • Analysing and reviewing compliance registers, including assisting in audits and ensuring registers are updated; communicating obligations with other business units; and facilitating uptake of compliance tools; and assisting with the completion of internal legal, compliance and risk reports.
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining guidance notes, briefing documents, correspondence and information about agreement operation and arrange internal training programs where necessary.
  • Undertaking legal research and required activities to maintain compliance with CSP commitments.
  • Assisting with development of strategy and delivering team projects relating to the implementation of Rio Tinto's land use agreements.
  • Engaging collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll Bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A degree qualification in Law with contract interpretation exposure particularly related to technical agreements with good knowledge of native title, agreements and their implementation, or equivalent experience and qualification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated proficiency across a wide variety of audiences and constituencies.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise and organise a number of concurrent projects under tight time pressure.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effective information management skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships at all levels of the organization as required from time to time.
  • A valid C class WA driver's licence.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience working in the mining and metals / extractive sectors.
  • National or International legal experience.
