Social Change is a new team in Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and our key aim is to advocate and educate on behalf of our community with a focus on upholding the rights of our community.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and deliver on our advocacy campaign plans from end to end.
  • Ensure that GDN's advocacy campaigns are informed by lived experience, putting people with low vision or blindness at the centre of the campaigns.
  • Facilitate the work required within Social Change and across the broader GDN team to meet our campaign goals.
  • Provide leadership and expertise around advocacy campaigning to Social Change, Marketing and senior management.
  • Advise on online and offline campaigning techniques, and manage effective campaign planning tools to ensure the success of campaigns.
  • Support the community education strategy as required.
  • Support GDN political engagement work, advising the most appropriate course of action to achieve our policy and campaigns objectives with parliamentarians.
  • Keep abreast of the political and legislative climate and advise the organization on the opportunities these provide to further GDN's objectives.
  • Build and track the Social Change stakeholder plan to ensure consistency across our external relationships within Social Change.
  • Identify and support the build of a coalition of supporters among likeminded peer organisations.
  • Work closely with our external agencies to identify opportunities to promote GDN's advocacy campaigns to the media, and ensure that campaign messages are accurate and well targeted.
  • Deliver highquality written recommendations, briefings, publications and other materials that communicate complex messages clearly to a range of audiences.

Essential Experience:

  • At least 5 years experience in Advocacy Campaigning or other relevant areas.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, implementing, devising and prioritizing multiple projects to meet agreed deadlines and targets.
  • Knowledge of Australian political environments.
  • Experience in the disability sector, preferably blindness and low vision.
