Appointment Pool
Aveley Secondary College (SC) is looking to establish a pool of Education Support Teachers for permanent and fixed-term positions throughout the 2024 school year and until the end of Term 3, 2024. Teaching appointments can be made from this pool at any time within the given period.
Our Inclusive Education Hub offers top-notch facilities for students with moderate to severe and profound disabilities, such as a hydrotherapy pool, sensory play space, life skills room, and therapy consult space.
At Aveley SC, our team of specialist teachers and education support staff collaborates closely to deliver personalized programs and evidence-based practices that enhance each child's educational, physical, and social development. Teachers are expected to adjust the curriculum and make necessary modifications to cater to individual student requirements. Our staff partners with students, parents, and other stakeholders to provide specific programs focusing on literacy, numeracy, communication, social skills, protective behaviors, and independent living skills, ultimately leading to employability skills including Workplace Learning (WPL) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.
We are in search of adaptable and thoughtful teachers to join our team, preferably with expertise related to students with moderate to severe disabilities, including Intellectual Disability (ID), physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Trauma. Experience in supporting students with complex communication needs is highly advantageous. Candidates with qualifications in special needs education or a willingness to pursue further studies in this field will be highly regarded. Suitable applicants should be dedicated to encouraging student engagement and creating a nurturing environment where student achievements are recognized and celebrated.
Qualified candidates should ideally have experience as secondary education support teachers willing to teach across all year levels. It is highly beneficial for applicants to possess a strong background in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and have knowledge of trauma-informed practice, Special Education Needs Reporting To Parents (SEN RTP), Abilities Based Learning Education (ABLEWA) reporting, Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), TEACCH practice, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and Positive Behavior Support (PBS).
Applicants should be capable of developing, implementing, and reviewing meaningful Individual Education Plans that not only focus on curriculum objectives but also support students in their social-emotional and life skills development, as well as Protective Behaviors. As an Education Support Teacher, you will be responsible for effectively managing a team of Education Assistants within the classroom.

The College features state-of-the-art facilities, including modern classrooms, Science labs, Cooking and Textiles rooms, Sports Hall, Arts complex, and a dedicated Education Support Hub for students with high needs.
