Our client is a global leader in warehousing, storage, distribution and waste management. They are looking for a Transport Manager to join their team based in Kewdale.

The purpose of this role is to lead the WA Transport operations to achieve delivery in full on time (DIFOT) and meet customer, business and financial objectives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing the scheduling and planning of the fleet to meet customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Review of revenue and costs reports including the identification of any discrepancies for action
  • Profit and loss of the WA Transport operations, including reporting requirements, and taking corrective action as required
  • Managing the performance of subcontractors, direct reports and their teams against business objectives and KPIs
  • Quoting jobs/work to ensure that the company remains competitive whilst also meeting financial objectives.
  • Ensuring the company complies with legislative requirements including but not limited to driver fatigue, mass and weight management, load restraints and other relevant safety standards.
  • Ensuring driver training is undertaken, recorded, and updated as required; managing driver performance.
  • Managing the customer relationship and liaising with external providers to resolve arising issues, complaints or feedback.
  • Ensuring that accurate records are maintained in relation to all role required licences and that regular currency reviews are undertaken and reported.
  • Managing and monitoring the workforce profile and ensuring that the required resources are available to meet business requirements.
  • Undertaking recruitment/labour sourcing activities to ensure that suitably qualified and experienced workers are available to meet requirements.
  • Preparing accurate reports for senior management on a range of issues as required by the Division's leadership
  • Ensuring that all fleet vehicles are maintained and serviced to the required standard, including fleet security and implementing a compliant vehicle maintenance program
  • Identifying and leading initiatives to improve operational quality and efficiency.
  • Ensuring a high level of delivery integrity is maintained by managing accurate fleet records and consistent improvements in all procedures
  • Reviewing and approving transport schedules having regard to KPI's and ensuring daily transport activities are in accordance with schedules
  • Managing the overall performance of the transport activities to achieve business objectives and regulatory and policy/procedure compliance including CoR, and Company QMS requirements
  • Managing driver sub-contractor supplier terms and conditions for approval
  • Identifying and evaluating opportunities for growth and performance efficiency/enhancement in relation to transport activities
  • Supervise and coach direct reports
  • Ensure all WH&S policies and applicable Company policies and procedures are communicated and adhered to
  • Adhering to and being active within the site Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
  • Reporting any accidents, injuries and incidents, no matter how minor immediately.
  • Managing reported hazards with internal safety team and participating in risk assessments where relevant
  • Other reasonable duties as directed by management

What we are looking for:

  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience within a road routing transport operation, including the rostering and management of drivers.
  • Previous management experience in a Transport business and knowledge of Basic Fatigue Management (BFM), Mass and Maintenance
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain financial objectives, including frequent P&L reporting and corrective actions to ensure P&L objectives are met
  • Experience managing and evaluating the performance of transport drivers/processes against key performance indicators (KPI's).
  • Demonstrated scheduling, planning, analysis and reporting capability.
  • Ability to prioritise competing tasks to achieve business objectives/outcomes
  • Extensive working knowledge of the geography of Western Australia.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to form effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and basic WMS/TMS software
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NHVAS, CoR (Fatigue Management, Load planning, and Mass Management), Dangerous Goods Awareness, and Segregation requirements.
  • Dangerous Goods experience would be an advantage.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, achieve performance and productivity targets.
  • Ability to comply with Company policies, procedures, and legislative requirement.
