An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer (postdoctoral scientist) to join the Scott Laboratory in the ACRF Cancer Biology and Stem Cells Division at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the position


Research in the Scott laboratory focuses on ovarian and rare cancers and incorporates the WEHI-Stafford Fox Rare Cancer Program, which aims to perform molecular analyses, develop pre-clinical models, and undertake research on specific rare cancers to support precision medicine.

We have developed around 100 patient-derived xenograft models of ovarian and rare cancers and have been using a subgroup of these to study PARP inhibitor sensitivity and resistance.

We are now seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher who will expand these studies, testing new targeted treatment combinations in organoid/3D cell culture and in vivo models.

The organoid work will involve high throughput screening in the National Drug Discovery Centre at WEHI to look for novel combinations that will then be tested in vivo.

Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge and skills- Possess a PhD in a relevant discipline such as cancer biology- Research experience with animal models or organoid/3D cell culture that has led to publication in a peer reviewed journal - please describe this in your cover letter- High level of written and oral communication skills- Proven interpersonal and collaborative skills in achieving research outcomes


Personal qualities- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, new methods and theories are accurate, of high quality and accessible to other researchers.

- Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable- Willingness to learn new skills

Terms of appointment

This position is available for 2 years in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level A- A8 ($93,415 to $100,270). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
