We have an exciting opportunity available for three Unit Heads to join the EPA in the Regulatory Operations Metropolitan team.


The Unit Head Environmental Health (1 position based in Parramatta/ Newcastle) leads a project-based team that identifies and investigates systemic state-wide and emerging environmental health issues and implements mitigation strategies to protect the environment and community.


The Unit Head Regulatory Operations (2 positions based in Parramatta) leads a team which provides day to day frontline services using regulation, advisory and other tools to protect the environment and community in the Sydney, Central Coast and Newcastle area.

The work ranges from incident response and management, compliance with licences and investigations to long term strategic projects addressing environmental priorities.


About You

  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of relevant environmental legislation,
  • Experience in a relevant environmental management area e.g. catchments, industry, hazardous substances, waste, contaminated site management, planning and/or local government.
  • Sound understanding of the workings of government at a state and local level.
  • Experience in liaising with a range of client or stakeholder groups to deliver environmentally sustainable outcomes.
  • Experience in managing staff, projects and setting priorities.

About the Team


Regulatory Operations Metropolitan is a dedicated team of environmental regulators who work to protect the environment and people from harm through the regulation of licences, responding to and investigating environmental incidents and complaints, and the investigation and mitigation of systemic state-wide and emerging environmental health issues.


If you are successful in either role, you will be working in a supportive, diverse, results driven team, who work across varied geographic areas on significant environmental protection matters.
