A little about the role:

This role reports to Centurion's EGM - Governance & Commercial and is based near the Perth Airport.

In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of all legal services in support of Centurion's national operations.

As a leader, you will have the opportunity to shape the profile of the legal function within the Company.

Key Duties:

  • Review and/or draft high value and complex contract documentation.
  • Design strategies to minimise legal and compliance risk and embed those strategies in advice to Centurion.
  • Lead face to face negotiations with external parties.
  • Increase visibility and engagement of legal function by designing better ways of working with other departments and within the legal function.
  • Development of standardised contracts.
  • Design and implement a legal and compliance training plan for Centurion. This will cover general legal concepts, contracting principles, legal policies and procedures and changes in law relevant to Centurion.
  • Manage legal and compliance support in relation to acquisitions and divestments.
  • Provide legal support in relation to SSIs.
  • Contribute proactively to internal approval and execution processes.
  • Complete weekly and monthly reporting on legal matters to Executive and the Board, ensuring that all updates effectively communicate the status and likely outcome of all matters.
  • When required, present on legal matters and advice to the Executive.
  • Manage dispute resolution / negotiations. Provide recommendations for resolution and settlement.
  • Provide supervision of junior team member/s in line with relevant professional conduct rules.
  • Manage external lawyers and legal budget to ensure pragmatic and cost effective advice received.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Does this sound like you?

  • A degree in law and a current Australian practising certificate.
  • 8+ years' experience working in an equivalent inhouse role or in a top tier law firm with significant experience in commercial contracting legal matters.
  • Broad legal knowledge (corporate law, commercial, litigation, employment etc).
  • Excellent proficiency interpreting and advising on contracts, policies and legislation.
  • Experience working for a large logistics company is desirable.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
