About the Role

Reporting to Program Lead, this is a pivotal role within the Service Delivery Portfolio.

As the Leading Hand Maintenance you will be responsible for:

providing in field leadership and technical guidance to crews for delivery of natural resources management, grass management and civil maintenance and project works on Melbourne Water's Waterways, Drainage and Land assets.


  • Working with and providing in field oversight of crews undertaking various onground activities.
  • Accountable for meeting specified quality, timeliness, budgetary and compliance requirements
  • Successful delivery of natural resources management, grass management and civil maintenance and project activities across a geographical area of Melbourne Water's Waterways and Land assets.
  • Support a culture of Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
  • A valid Driver's Licence is required as this role requires occasional travel.

About you:

  • You'll have a passion to make a difference and add to our work environment, within a place where you can learn and perform to your fullest potential.
  • Demonstrated experience and capabilities working with and leading crews in a maintenance environment.
  • Ability to take responsibility for own role in ensuring the safety of all team members and other personnel on site.
  • Problem solving skills, including the ability to deliver the appropriate outcomes.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public.
  • Ability to work and contribute to a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.

Position Description:
MW196- Position Description - Leading Hand


The role is based at Brooklyn Pumping Station, Brooklyn with travel required to field based sites and assets throughout Melbourne Waters network in the North and West.

An operational work vehicle will be used to attend sites.
