The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand, is seeking a Governance Advisor to join our Legal and governance area.


The Governance and Legal Support Officer will provide proactive governance support services to the College; the Corporate Governance and Risk Committee (CGRC); other College committees; Company Secretary, Chief Executive Officer and President, in a professional and timely manner.


This role has a specific focus to:

  • Ensure governance documents are accurate, prepared and maintained in accordance with established governance processes.
  • Draft governance documents relating to committees, including but not limited to Regulations, position descriptions, election notices and nominations.
  • Coordinate and administer the election processes relating to the Board and all College committees including drafting and distributing call for nominations, ballots, appointment letters etc.
  • Work with College staff in supporting the election process across all College committees.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate record keeping with respect to governance decisions and committee membership, including overseeing the iMIS committee register to ensure it is kept uptodate and accurate.
  • Proactively identify the training needs of key stakeholders and deliver tailored training (including the induction of new members), to support governance processes in accordance with best governance practice.
  • Lead and support governance projects and continuous improvement projects in relation to improving College governance.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in governance and risk management or experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in providing executive support to committees including preparing agendas, minute taking and drafting documents for committees.
  • Experience in the administration of governance policy and procedures, maintenance of registers, support of corporate delegations, authorisations and other Governance related matters.
  • Proven experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and related processes involving the review of systems and procedures.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills including the ability to plan, set priorities and to meet deadlines, with flexibility to alter priorities to meet changing demands.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently with mínimal supervision.
