The Centre for Crop and Disease Management

The Centre for Crop and Disease Management (CCDM) at Curtin University works closely with the grains industry to reduce the $1 billion per year burden of crop disease for Australian farmers. For the last 10 years our research discoveries have improved the genetic resistance of wheat, barley, canola, and pulses providing enduring solutions for growers dealing with disease epidemics. With a large team of more than 100 research staff and students focused on molecular plant pathology, fungicide resistance, agronomy, and precision agriculture, CCDM's multidisciplinary approach uniquely allows us to deliver solutions more effectively than would be possible with research focused in one area.

This position is part of DataHarvest, a national project that focuses on improving how research, development, and extension (RD&E) data is managed in the grains industry. The project aims to develop a national collaborative framework for supporting and delivering regionally relevant training in research data management across the Australian grains industry.
Curtin University has partnered with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) to deliver the DataHarvest project through the CCDM.

We are seeking a detail-oriented applicant to support research data management within the DataHarvest project. You will be the first point of contact in providing hands-on support to stakeholders. You will support the project lead in developing face-to-face and online data management resources, maintain the metadata catalogue, and provide hands-on support for quality metadata records and good data management practices.

If successful, you will have an opportunity to grow your skills in a diverse team through support and training, connect with researchers and industry and enable innovation in a new area.

In this role, you will:
Maintain a metadata catalogue, quality check incoming metadata entries and data management plans for compliance with existing guidelines. Provide support and advice to researchers in agriculture, including best practices in research data management. Support the development and maintenance of online data management resources, including online self-help and training resources/videos. Share developments in agricultural RD&E data support with other organisations through training workshops and other avenues. We are looking for (the ideal candidate):
Completion of a relevant degree ( Library and information science, information management, Agriculture/Science related degree) with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education. Demonstrated information management skills, including an understanding of the application of new and emerging technologies relevant to research data management. Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality, client/customer-focused services. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group. Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well within a team. Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly and independently with limited direction. Knowledge of agricultural industry (desirable). As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.
