    The Department


The Speech Pathology & Language Services Department is coordinated across Alfred Health including The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital.

The department is comprised of approximately 42 EFT; 24EFT speech pathology, 10EFT interpreters and 8EFT Administrational staff, which provides services to in/out patients and home-based care including virtual care.

The Speech Pathology department is committed to high quality patient care, ongoing teaching and professional development for Speech Pathology students and staff and leadership in quality and research activities.


Language Services aims to facilitate the engagement of patients in the care process through the provision of language interpretation and translation of health information.

Interpreting is provided face-to-face, telephone on-demand, video on-demand or video pre-booked.

The Role
The Speech Pathology Deputy Manager & Language Service Lead provides operational support to the Speech Pathology Manager. Under the direction of the Speech Pathology & Language Services Manage

Skills

  • Possesses qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Postgraduate clinical qualifications or health services management/administration/ business management at Masters level or higher.
  • Experience in the delivery and/or management of an Speech Pathology service in a hospital environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues and directions of allied health services
  • Demonstrated understanding of organisational change concepts and practices, with the ability to lead and manage a team through change
  • Demonstrated high level communication, negotiation, problem solving, conflict management and interpersonal skills with an ability to develop sound working relationships and work effectively within a team
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing staff professional development, service review and quality improvement and research initiatives
  • Extensive past experience in the supervision and mentoring of Speech Pathologists, students and support staff.
  • High level planning and organisational skills
  • An ability to monitor performance, lead and motivate staff and to ensure department standards are upheld
  • Motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to excellence
  • Demonstrated capacity to motivate staff and to contribute to a positive organisational culture
  • Demonstrated financial management skills
  • Working knowledge, experience and competency with information management systems.
