Job Description


What Aurora Dairies can offer youAurora Dairies are currently seeking a Farm Manager for a dairy farm located at Bushy Park on the edge of the Styx River in Southern Tasmania, located 50 minutes from Hobart and 20 minutes from New Norfolk in the Derwent Valley.

The farm is approximately 542ha effective area, with 390ha under pivot irrigation and 47ha under hard hose irrigation.

This farm is currently milking 1000 cows, through a 50 bail rotaryshed with ACR's, auto teat spray and auto draft via DeLaval herd management system.

This farm is 100% Spring calving beginning in mid-August.

Accommodation will be provided to the successful applicant in a family home, and there could be opportunities for employment for your partner, if required.

As Farm Manager you will need to be a team player creating an environment where people can develop to help achieve desired outcomes.

You will have well developed pasture management and animal husbandry skills and understand the demands of large scale dairy farming.

Safety will be at the forefront of everything you do.

Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you will:

Ensure safe operations across the property through the implementation of our Safety Management SystemManage and direct staff to achieve positive outcomesExhibit sound and accurate judgement to ensure the highest standards of animal health and welfareReport on farm plans and inventoryPaddock inspection estimating quality and availability of pasturesImplement stock rotations and contribute to plans for future feed budgetsFeed management to support achievement of budgeted production targetsMonitor and maintain water and fencingMaintain accurate stock, treatment, and feeding recordsOperate and maintain plant and equipmentCoordinate contractors for required fertiliser, hay/silage making activitiesAdhere to company policies and safe work procedures.

Qualifications


The desired skills and experience for this opportunity are:You will be an energetic, and self-motivated individual with strong cattle and pasture management skills, who is keen to get stuck in and get the job done.

You can work well on your own but equally works in very well amongst a team- we have twelve farms in Northern Tasmania and our Farm Managers meet regularly as a team for peer group meetings to share advice and support each other to achieve goals.


You will have:


Previous experience as a Dairy Farm Manager in a large-scale livestock operationDemonstrated ability to lead and direct peers and work as a valuable team memberReporting and computer skillsDemonstrated ability to follow and implement budgeted outcomes to optimise profitabilityDemonstrated experience in the management and handling of livestockPasture based farming experienceSide by Side and tractor operation skillsInitiative to complete operational tasks that contribute to the teamAbility to support and implement safe work proceduresWillingness to learn new systems of work, for example we have Halter cow collar technology on some of our farms and therefore employ innovative managers who are willing to try new technology.
