Outdoor Recreation Program Leader (Trainee) - Fulltime - Camp Wyuna

The Y Geelong is seeking a passionate individual with a interest in outdoor education to join our team in 2025 Our Program Leader - Trainee position is a 12-month traineeship working full time at Queenscliff - Camp Wyuna.

About the Job

The Program Leader - Trainee will be part of the Camp Wyuna program team and will complete a Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation in block study through a registered training organisation.

The Program Leader will;

Learn on the job how to facilitate the camp activity programs to a diverse range of campers, mostly school students, communicate with school teachers and group leaders, follow risk management plans and procedures and undertake equipment maintenance. Provide direct delivery of activities to school and community groups ensuring participants learning outcomes are achieved. Attend camp on the required rostered days which have a span of hours from Monday - Sunday 7am-7pm. Fulltime trainees will be rostered 38hrs per week (76hrs fortnight fortnight) within the span of hours. Typically the working week is Monday to Friday with only occasional weekend work required. This will be communicated in advance if required. Be capable of undertaking duties in areas within all the camp operations outside the program when required eg. assist with duties in the areas of light cleaning and maintenance, assist with the changeover of groups, kitchen assistance and administrative tasks associated with planning and delivering of programs.

As the year progresses the Program Leader - Trainee leadership skills will develop and the trainee will have the opportunity to undertake the role as a ‘key leader’. This is an important leadership role that involves liaising between the camp and the visiting group, ensuring all their needs are met and camp program is facilitated.
