Sydney, Australia Woods Bagot Full time

Woods Bagot is a People Architecture company placing human experience at the centre of our design process to create and deliver engaging, future-oriented projects that respond to the way people actually use space.

About the Role

We are seeking a sustainability business leader for our Australia region. The position is targeted for a seasoned professional with experience delivering complex sustainability services for a diverse set of clients in different sectors.

Suitable candidates should combine design and leadership skills with a background in sustainability, ecology, or materials science and interests in social equity and human-centered design practices.

Key Deliverables:

  • Identify clients, develop business and opportunities, support Woods Bagot in pursuing major projects and clients, maintain client relationships, and work to differentiate our offering in the Australian market.
  • Manage and deliver contribution to projects on time, to budget and specification.
  • Expand the technical capacity of the Sustainability team in the Australian region by developing work opportunities and pipeline to support additional staff.
  • Provide thought leadership as part of internal/external communications.
  • Support multiple studios across time zones on projects and client development.
  • Coordinate internal communications and reporting for sustainability initiatives.

About You

For this position, candidates should be able to demonstrate analysis experience, good communication skills, research and trend analysis, and the ability to identify opportunities, pursue leads, and manage projects with clients from concept to completion. Research experience is also beneficial as this role will include the development of approaches to evaluate sustainable building techniques and technologies.

As this is a critical role for driving growth within our sustainability division, candidates will need to be highly successful at identifying and capitalising on new business opportunities, building and maintaining relationships with clients, developing strategic partnerships and winning consulting commissions.

Candidates should have experience in creative approaches to visualising data and be prepared to present and discuss research findings and sustainability strategies to clients and lay-person audiences. As a consultant, our core work involves writing and visually communicating our ideas and recommendations, but we are always pushing new approaches to design communication, including digital and experiential deliverables.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to think broadly across several focus areas and bring together an optimised solution.
  • Analytical thinking to draw sensible conclusions from own work and communicate these clearly to others.
  • Able to interact with clients and represent Woods Bagot externally.
  • Outgoing and personally persuasive.
  • Good communication skills—written, oral, and electronic—are essential for team-based working.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills required for our fast-paced environment and managing multiple jobs at once without losing track of need for completion of subtasks.
  • Ability to self-direct research, find new ideas and approaches, and innovate on the job.
  • Able to work in teams with diverse technical and consulting contributions.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or architectural engineering. Advanced degree is preferred, with a specialist emphasis in carbon, materials, or technology.
  • Experience with collaborative working environments.
  • Experienced in use of analysis or design software, particularly Rhino or Revit, Adobe InDesign, Excel, Radiance/Ladybug/Honeybee, Pollination, and Grasshopper.
  • Working knowledge of the Green Star and/or WELL rating systems and / or other sustainability rating system.
  • Experience with sustainable and ethical materials procurement and specifications, as well as embodied carbon modeling.
  • Green Star AP is preferred, but not essential.

Benefits we offer:

In addition to working for a world class design Studio you will enjoy benefits such as:

  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Employee Referral Program
  • Annual Discretionary Bonus
  • Working on some of the most interesting and complex projects in Australia alongside a talented team
