Melbourne, Australia UMENCO Full time

Brand Story

This modern womenswear label designs elegant clothes influenced by a coastal-meets-urban lifestyle. Clean lines, inclusive sizing, modern shapes, and vibrant prints comprise the brand’s design signatures.

Role Overview

UMENCO is recruiting a meticulous Garment Technician to join the team at a contemporary womenswear brand.

In this mid-level role, the Garment Technician will support the Senior Garment Technician to manage and oversee all aspects of technical design to ensure the accuracy of product measurements, quality, construction, and
fit.

In doing so, they will contribute to all aspects of technical design for every collection, including the creation of tech packs for every style, and the development of a fit comment document for all garment components, including fit, fabric, construction, stitch, and trim.

The Garment Technician will be responsible for measuring garments accurately to identify any fit issues and execute fit comments efficiently to remain on schedule with production. They will participate in fit sessions, provide recommendations, note call-outs, and log critiques to accurately and efficiently address all issues.

Alongside this, they will assess the grading submitted by the factory to ensure it is aligned with brand grading guidelines; pre-check and pre-approve SMS samples for production approval after a thorough evaluation of fit, measurement, pattern shaping, hanger appeal, and functionality; will help solve construction problems throughout the sample stage, and consistently communicate with the Design Lead, Product Development Manager, Production team and the Senior Garment Technician.

The talent we seek will hold a minimum of three years in the womenswear industry, with strong knowledge across all aspects of technical design, including tech pack, garment specifications, grading, and fit comments.

They will possess a genuine awareness of trends, with the ability to incorporate this into fit sessions, and will complement this with experience in fabric testing, textile properties, and quality assurance.

The successful Garment Technician will have the ability to anticipate construction problems and provide suitable solutions, will be a sound communicator with strong interpersonal skills, and will be well-versed in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook.

They will be able to prioritise and manage a workload with multiple competing deadlines; demonstrate organisational skills to adhere to critical path deadlines; uphold a commitment to impeccable attention to detail and will hold tertiary qualifications in pattern making and garment construction.
